It's Advent Time!

I LOVE Advent calendars and I wish I could collect everyone I see!  I've seen so many cute tutorials online I want to make them ALL!  This year I started to make one(the stack of squares in the picture).  I embroidered the numbers on all the pockets but need to finish it.  A task I will have to do next year!  It is killing me not to finish it!  I am a finisher when it comes to sewing projects.  But as you can see, I have others to use in the mean time.  My plan for the one I'm making is to have it be an ornament Advent where each pocket will contain a small ornament that the kids can add onto their own small tree each day until Christmas.

For my Christmas Tree Advent I am planning on putting in things we already do together as a family for Christmas.  My list so far is this: (in no particular order)
Christmas Pillowcases
Get Tree
Decorate Tree
Set up the Christmas Train
Sledding
Ice Skating
Make Ginger Bread Houses
Drive around to see lights
Visit Temple Square
Family Movie Night (Polar Express)
Caroling ? (would be the first for us)
Decorate Sugar Cookie for Santa
Visit Santa
Read Christmas Stories
Sub for Santa

I am planning on filling some pockets as I go depending on parties or fun things that may come up during the month.  I found a GREAT blog called Uncommon Grace.  She has a long list of suggestions for activities to put in your Advent.  I need to lengthen mine.

Are you into Advent Calendars?  What are some traditions or ideas you do for your Advent?

Hi Amy! I love Advent calendars too. Yours are darling! Your list is a lot like mine. I try to add in a few toys and candy just to mix it up. I am blogging about advent calendars tonight too.

ps. the links to that long list didn't work for me, but I would love more ideas.

Thanks!

I didn't know you were so talented at sewing! That is one talent I wish I could develop. My mom is an amazing sewer and she always had so many hand made things around the house. Now I have some of them and they are such treasures! Your kids are very lucky. I read down a little further and love your "Buddy"! I am going to have to get that book.

You broke out the tree! Has Kevin noticed? It is really cute. I am glad you got it. I am making one on a flag banner. I will just have them put the numbers that I embroidered on felt (cheap felt)on each flag with velcro. Hopefully it won't be after Christmas when I finish it!

I LOVE advent calendars. My Mom made a cute bear one when I was growing up and you moved the bear around the house and he ends up at the Christmas tree at the end, but my favorite was an old antique wooden box that has 24 square openings and we would put a old german ornament in it. So fun. I think anything that you do that starts a tradition your kids will look forward to. I just wanted to do the same things year after year!!

Amy, these are such great ideas. Remember when we learned all about traditions from C-Dogg? I've been all about family traditions since then. Your list has really gotten me thinking. Thanks for always posting fun and creative things on your blog! It inspires me!

That tree advent is super cute. Did you make it or buy it, if you bought it where did you get it? Thanks!
